DJ & MC - FAQs

Click on any of the questions below to jump to the answer:

  • Q1: How early do I have to book the recording session prior to the performance?
  • A1: Book as early as you can to avoid disappointment! Sometimes in the year we are extremely busy i.e. months running up to Christmas. Though, due to our large range of recording systems we can accommodate upto 3 different sessions (max) on any given day. We usually expect a minimum of two weeks notice before a recording session.

  • Q3: Do I need to provide any information prior to the session?
  • A: It's beneficial if you can provide as much information as possible, so that you can get the most out of your recording session. Please provide as much of the information as outlined below:

* Address (inc. postcode) for the venue where the recording will take place.

* Start and finish times of the session.

* A diagram or photo of the room with rough dimensions of where recording will take place.

* A diagram of how the DJs / MCs / Crowd will be laid out within the room.

* Information of any other rooms (maximum 30 meters from performers), where a 'control room' may be set up.

  • Q4: Which venues are best to record in?
  • A4: Many venues are suitable for location recording. You must remember that the acoustic properties of the room in which you record will be transferred to the recording when microphones are involved.

* Try to find a room in which you like the sound of your performances. Try to avoid long narrow rooms or square rooms as these generally have bad acoustic properties and tend to pick up background noise from the MCs microphone.

* If you are recording live you may want some crowd 'ambience' included as this improves the feel of live recording - please inform us prior to the session if you would like a few crowd microphones setting up.

  • Q5: Can I sit in on the editing sessions?
  • A5: You can sit in on editing sessions, but only if you need your set to be corrected (i.e. bad mixes or skipping needles). You must inform us of any edits after the session - we will take notes during the session of any problems.

  • Q6: How long do I have to wait until I can hear the final product?
  • A6: Usually you will receive a master copy of your audio within 2-3 days. This though, is dependant on the size of the session and how much editing may be involved, in some cases (i.e. weekend events) it may take up to a week to return your finished masters - we will advise on the turnaround time prior to longer sessions.

  • Q7: Does my recording session come with any guarantees?
  • A7: We offer the highest quality service possible for recording your mixes. We cannot guarantee good DJ Vs MC levels on sessions going directly to DAT, as the recording is captured 'as is' and is live. This does not apply to professional multi-track sessions, as we have more control over the audio during the mixdown process.
  • Please note that your equipment (decks/mics/mixers) should be in good working order, we cannot guarantee against audio problems produced by your own equipment. We advise that you have any spares such as styluses, cross-faders, microphones and batteries if radio equipment is used. We will advise you of any problems prior to the session if there are any.

  • Q8: Why does it cost so much to do a recording session?
  • A8: Recording equipment and its up-keep isn't cheap. Our studio is currently worth that of a brand-new luxury family car, and is probably more expensive to run and maintain! We also invest in the latest technology so that you get the best quality product available. Also our staff are highly trained, experienced and dedicated, so they won't work for peanuts - but they're worth every penny you pay.
